Sera Jey monastic university

Founded in 1619 in Lhasa, Tibet, Sera Jey Monastery follows its centuries old tradition and culture to the present day. With an academic system styled after the Nalanda Tradition of ancient India, in addition to prayer, puja, meditation, and serving the community, the monastics of Sera primarily focus on the study and memorization of key texts in the unique heritage of Indian Buddhist thought covering philosophy, psychology, and logic. Debating with one’s classmates is the main method of study used.
